A wine room is meant to be seen
Why build a wine room and hide it behind a solid door? The bottles, the racks and the light are the point. An iron and glass door keeps all of it in view and still closes the room off.
Scrollwork gives the glass a frame, and the frame gives the room a front. The door becomes part of the collection.
Good wine deserves a good window.
If the room is cooled
A cooled wine room needs a door that holds the temperature in. Every Amador door is injected with polyurethane foam, carries 5/8 inch insulated glass, and uses marine-grade EPDM rubber seals on glass that opens.
Tell us if your room is cooled, and to what temperature, when you send the opening.
The door is the first thing a guest sees of your wine room.
Pick your glass
Most wine rooms use clear glass, because the bottles are the reason for the door. Flemish or Aquatex make sense when the cellar sits off a busy hall.
Clear
Privacy
Clear glass shows the most. Pick it when the view through the door is part of the look, or when the entry faces a private drive.
Flemish
Privacy
Flemish glass has a soft, rippled texture. Light comes through and shapes blur, so the hall stays bright without being on show.
Aquatex
Privacy
Aquatex gives the most privacy of the three. You still get daylight in the hall, and people outside see mostly light and color.
Privacy ratings come from our glass chart, with 5 the most private.
How every Amador door is built
We design and build every door in house. We start with flat sheets of steel and shape our own tubing, then bend the bar stock for the scrollwork by hand.
- Steel
- At least 14-gauge steel in the door and the jamb.
- Thickness
- 2 inches.
- Scrollwork
- 5/8 inch solid bar, bent by hand.
- Glass
- 5/8 inch insulated glass comes standard. Depending on the design, the glass opens on hinges so it is easy to clean.
- Seals
- Marine-grade EPDM rubber seals on every glass frame that opens.
- Insulation
- Polyurethane foam injected into the door and the jamb. Thermally broken insulation is an upgrade.
- Hinges
- Three ball bearing hinges per door, machined in house, each rated for at least 700 lbs.
- Threshold
- A steel threshold built into the frame.
- Sealed
- Coated, then sealed with two coats of clear polyurethane.
- Mounting
- Set with lag bolts through the jamb. No mounting tabs.
Every door comes with a 25-year structural warranty, 2 years on the finish and 1 year on the glass and handle.
