The modern door is mostly glass
Modern homes are designed around thin black lines and big panes of glass. A contemporary iron door gives you exactly that: a slim steel frame, straight bars and glass from top to bottom.
It works at the front entry, and it works at the back of the house where a wall of steel and glass opens to the patio. Same build, same insulated glass, no scrolls.
Less iron, more light, and the same build underneath.
Pick your glass
5/8 inch insulated glass comes standard. On a modern door, clear glass is the usual pick, and Flemish or Aquatex keep the look while adding privacy.
Clear
Privacy
Clear glass shows the most. Pick it when the view through the door is part of the look, or when the entry faces a private drive.
Flemish
Privacy
Flemish glass has a soft, rippled texture. Light comes through and shapes blur, so the hall stays bright without being on show.
Aquatex
Privacy
Aquatex gives the most privacy of the three. You still get daylight in the hall, and people outside see mostly light and color.
Privacy ratings come from our glass chart, with 5 the most private.
Big glass, Texas sun
A wall of glass that faces west takes the full afternoon sun. Every Amador door is foam injected, and our patented thermally broken insulation is an upgrade on any door or window. It works the same against heat and direct sun as it does against cold.
- Polyurethane foam in the door and the jamb
- 5/8 inch insulated glass, standard
- Thermally broken insulation, an upgrade. See thermal break doors
A modern door should look light and stay cool.
How every Amador door is built
We design and build every door in house. We start with flat sheets of steel and shape our own tubing, then bend the bar stock for the scrollwork by hand.
- Steel
- At least 14-gauge steel in the door and the jamb.
- Thickness
- 2 inches.
- Scrollwork
- 5/8 inch solid bar, bent by hand.
- Glass
- 5/8 inch insulated glass comes standard. Depending on the design, the glass opens on hinges so it is easy to clean.
- Seals
- Marine-grade EPDM rubber seals on every glass frame that opens.
- Insulation
- Polyurethane foam injected into the door and the jamb. Thermally broken insulation is an upgrade.
- Hinges
- Three ball bearing hinges per door, machined in house, each rated for at least 700 lbs.
- Threshold
- A steel threshold built into the frame.
- Sealed
- Coated, then sealed with two coats of clear polyurethane.
- Mounting
- Set with lag bolts through the jamb. No mounting tabs.
Every door comes with a 25-year structural warranty, 2 years on the finish and 1 year on the glass and handle.
